KeyClean support
A little help
getting started.
A quick setup for a quiet cleaning break.
Install KeyClean
The current download is for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. Allow Accessibility and Input Monitoring before locking the keyboard.
Open the latest DMG, drag KeyClean into Applications and launch it. Click its icon in your Mac’s menu bar to open the panel.
Allow keyboard permissions
KeyClean needs Accessibility permission to discard keyboard events while locked. Newer macOS event taps also need Input Monitoring.
Open KeyClean’s settings and use its permission controls to reach System Settings. Enable KeyClean under Accessibility and Input Monitoring. If the panel has not picked up the change, quit and reopen KeyClean once.
Lock, clean and unlock
Click Lock Keyboard before cleaning your keys. Mouse and trackpad input remain available, so you can reopen the menu-bar panel and click Unlock Keyboard.
To unlock from the keyboard, press and hold Escape for three seconds. Keep the key held until the keyboard is unlocked.
Start at login and stay updated
Enable Open at Login in settings to keep KeyClean ready when you sign in. The app lives in the menu bar without a Dock icon.
KeyClean periodically checks GitHub for updates. When an Update button appears in the panel, use it to install the newer release. You can also download the latest stable DMG here at any time.
